E3 2010 FFXIV Information Compilation

Eorzeapedia wasn’t the only website attending this year’s E3 with an eye on the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV.

Several other media sites were there, and they also got some hands on time with the latest build of the game as well as a chance to sit down with FFXIV Producer Hiromichi Tanaka. Now that everyone has posted their information we’ve thrown it all together in an easy to read list. Below we have videos, interview summaries and links to hands on experiences.

Another day another Gamescom interview report. This one is from the Playstation blog. Not much new in this one except some hints at beta timing from Tanaka.

PSB: Are you still planning a spring 2010 beta?

Tanaka: We can’t really say any certain timing, because the launch is planned to release is 2010. So that means in springtime there will probably be something at that point. We are trying to work as soon as possible, so as soon as preparation is done, there could be something earlier than 2010.

enhanced graphics and customization
possibility of surnames
armoury system that allows for better solo play
no leveling but skill-ups based on weapons used
influenced by, but different from, FFXI.

ZAM and PlayStation Blog: Interview with Tanaka

Gamescom is over but the information and interviews are still coming out. We’ve seen interviews from sites like Famitsu and 4Gamer. Dengeki has not published their interview but chances are they are leaving it for Dengeki PlayStation magazine. Now we have a joint interview done by Thayos from ZAM and Chris Morell from PlayStation Blog. There are some interesting tidbits in there that confirm some theories and blow others out of the water.

Quick Overview:

Current status for the Miqo’te and Roegadyn is what has been released, with only female Miqo’te and male Roegadyn
Possibility of surnames as a way to help people preserve their character names from FFXI
Requirement to change classes to use the skills from that class hinted at strongly
They are trying to appeal to FFXI players by making things similar in the two games
FFXI Linkshells = communication tool. FFXIV organizations = group working on common goals
